Question about paladins and looting body's

Nekron

First Post
The pc's came across the body of an adventurer they were supposed to bring back alive if possible (wasnt their fault..he was dead before they even got the quest). Anyway, they decided to loot his body. The party took his gold and a few of his weapons. That seemed ok. But then they also wanted to strip him of his armor and leave his body there. to me this seemed to cross the line for a paladin of Torm. Somehow I cant picture a paly stripping a man they know to be basicly a good guy, and leaveing his corpse half naked. The pc argued that his paly wouldnt have any problem with this. What do you all think?

Ask him if that's how he would like his paladin treated if he died. If the answer is no, perhaps he should rethink his decision.

I would Torm getting a bit nervous.... something like no lay on hands for a couple of days. It' up to your paladin to understand if he made something wrong. Stripping the armor is too much IMHO. He should also bury the corpse makin' a little funeral.

In Torm's portfolio there are Loyalty and Honor above all. Honor not only during battle, but even in dayly concerns. and be honourable with loyal (and good) people, even dead one.

i agree with steve.

This isnt such a big deal that it should make him atone, but he needs to learn that Paladinhood is a way of life- not something tat he can just brush aside cause he didnt feel like it.

Have him reread the paladin section, and the section on his god. Then have him do something small that proves he knows and understands how he should act from now on.

If my players were hired to bring someone back (paly or not) and they found him dead and stripped his bodya nd left him there to rot, I would change their alignment to neutral- because they are not lawful (stealing, and then not fulfilling their contract to bring back the person, or at the very least the body) and they are not good (not caring to give him a descent burial or at least bringing the body home to the family)

I think he picked paladin caus eof the great bonuses it gets, but forgot that with it comes huge restrictions on how to act. If this comes up again, make the punishments a lil harsher everytime- until you take it away for good.

Another thing is to have his church give him (at the proper lvl) a title. With this title, he has obligations to teh church he has to fulfill. If he does nto act accordingly, then strip him of his paladinhood...

PFW- powergamers...

I would revoke the Paladins Lay on Hands ability until he turns around and atones for the action by finding the body and burying it with all its gear.

Of course the Paladin would get this "mission" of atonement from Torm in a dream.

If you want to be a real rat bastard you can have the Paladin and party return to the body only to find it gone with signs that something very large and hungry made a meal out of it.

Hehehe ;)

Rule #1 - Never play nice when a Paladin thinks he or she can act like just another fighter.

The paladin in our group is much the same, he searches everyone as soon as it drops. However, he does take the time to bury them, even if its in frozen ground in the middle of winter. Luckily we were able to convince him that the bad guys were Suel, who's religious practice is the time-saving method of strapping their dead bodies to the undersides of large tree branches. He's not too sharp, but he swings a mean two-handed sword.
