Question on bashing a peice of metal

I have a problem. A metal plug is going to be bashed to bits by a barbarian with a hammer.
(the plug is set into the wall, covering a very important plot device...)

In order to destroy the plug, its hardness needs to be overcome and its hit points reduced to zero.

So, the question is: a cube of decent iron/steel that measures 1 foot on each side has a hardness of ___ and hit points of ____?

What RAW variances to these numbers are there, for instance weaker iron or whatever.

Thanks for the help!

From the SRD:
Iron or steel; Hardness: 10; HP: 30/inch of thickness
No variances are given in RAW, but it wouldn't be a stretch to introduce some.

Edit: to fill in your blanks, it should be Hardness of 10, and hit points of 360.
