Aside from helping make entry ito Arcane Trickster less painful, it's also nice for getting new divination spells from any spell list added to yours. One low level divination a lot of folks with that class go for is Hunter's Eye, a level 2 ranger spell that adds +1/3 CL to your sneak attack damage for 1 round. I'd probably use it if scouting ahead (yeah, I know in actual play that's suicide, but it's still fun/important to do so sometimes) or otherwise separated from the party, as a means of slowing plinking an enemy to death from relative safety, or at least bloody him enough to make him fall back. However, you lose the versatility of shifting spare attacks after the kill shot to a new target, and "full attacking" the same enemy with SA is probably overkill in a lot of instances if he's already been hit at least once in melee. Small size bonuses to attack, AC and Hide; dex and con bonuses (str and cha penalties); speed 30 despite being small, low-light AND darkvision; huge racial +4 to hide and move silently (if you're keeping count, size + dex bonus + racial = effective +9 to hide), spot and listen bonuses, some useful spell-like abilities...

Since the charisma penalty is probably a non-starter for you and you do need all the feats you can get, look into the Strongheart Halfling if you can use campaign setting books.
What's Improved Crossbow Sniper? I don't think Master Spellthief does a single thing without multiclassing, so don't bother if you're going single class. I really think you should at least consider one or two of the multiclass suggestions to patch up the spellthief's many weaknesses, but your call. At least look at Unseen Seer in C.Mage. That said, a Spellthief/some primary arcanist class/Unseen Seer with Master Spellthief would probably be stronger for that than just Spellthief/Unseen Seer. For feat ideas...look at Woodland Archer tactical feat from Races of the Wild. I always love to fit that in an archer build if possible. First tactic is a solid +4 to hit on any attacks after a miss. Second tactic is nice since concealment rapes sneak attack, but is probably worthless since any roguish archer with a brain gets the Seeking property ASAP. Third tactic limits you to only single attack sniping, but since you can now shift around and use it, is actually handy to have as an option. I'd probably use it if scouting ahead (yeah, I know in actual play that's suicide, but it's still fun/important to do so sometimes) or otherwise separated from the party, as a means of slowing plinking an enemy to death from relative safety, or at least bloody him enough to make him fall back.
