quick elemental companion variant questions

First Post
ok, say i have a druid with the elemental companion variant from complete mage. say i choose an earth elemental. say this earth elemental successfully grapples an opponent.

my question is, can my elemental companion use its earth glide ability to travel through the earth with its grappled opponent?

if possible, what damage could this be expected to cause to an opponent? and what saves (and at what DC's) would be involved?

if possible, could i have my earth elemental companion grapple me and take me through stone walls and such?

umm...Hello?

First, you have to give the boards a bit more than 5 hours, typical etiquette says wait a day before bumping a post. Second, by US Central time your first post was about 3AM and the second was about 8AM - most of the US posters aren't awake yet.

Finally as to your initial question: My reading of earthglide is that the elemental merges with the earth and moves through it in such a way that no cavity is created in which something could be transported. As a DM I would say that if the Elemental attempts to use earthglide then the grappled opponent is freed and cannot be transported via earthglide unless it to can use a similar ability at will. I would especially rule thus if you were trying to use this ability to somehow trap an opponent or deal more damage to them that a grapple would normally cause - doing so would be, IMO, an abuse of the rules and not appropriate in this situation.

erm "ditto"
The druid in my game has an earth elemental companion. He is not allowed to take anything with him. The earth elemental is a great scout, and proven his worth numerous times. sticking his head out of the floor does not provoke an AoO, and only readied attacks have any chance of hurting him. Being able to retireve treasure, much less enemies would add levels to his power.

btw he also solved the problem of poor overland speed by sending the EE to a known location (or follow a road/ river/ other landmark) and having him walk for 16 hrs a day, so that they did not have to slow the whole party to a crawl. The EE misses all the random encounters on the way - but I am not big on random fights, after a certain level.
