Hi all. I made a quick encounter calculator using Excel for the campaign I'm currently running. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else finds it useful. You can change the number of players in the party, the party level, and the number of monsters in the encounter. Because I've got a few players dipping in and out I needed a quick way to recalculate encounters with fewer or more people. Its also nice to be able to just create an encounter with X number of monsters. I've included a few potential monsters for each challenge rating (this isn't all the monsters for that challenge rating, only the ones I would consider using in my current campaign. Feel free to add your own, ask me how if you're confused). Basically, let's say you had 4 players all at level 3 and you wanted an encounter with two monsters. Input the numbers and this will calculate the CR for easy, medium, hard, and deadly encounters, then give you a list of potential monsters to use. So, you can't use this to set a challenge rating and find out how many monsters it should have, what level the party should be for such an encounter, etc. It's not backwards compatible like that. Also, you can't mix challenge ratings - it only gives a single CR for a set number of enemies. But if you want a fast way to get encounters that are balanced, this might help. Enjoy! Feel free to bastardise at your leisure.
