HELP! Need specifics on Giilia, the evil "City of the Bat," and city of Zoa. Bought new KoK Geanavue city book but do not own KoK, and both of these are (briefly) mentioned as being rivals.

You say specifics, and then list nothing! What specifics would you like to know? These places are both large cities in the Reanaaria Bay area. Giilia, City of Bats (note plural!) is ruled by an Elven vampire known as Esmaran, and she is not an entirely nice bunny. Indeed the underside of the city is teeming with ghasts and ghouls and other nasties.

Zoa is vastly bigger than that, an airy, spacious benign city in comparison ruled by a council of twelve elders, and is very significant in the Coin Trilogy of Adventures, being detailed quite specifically in the Root of All Evil. Unless you have further 'specifics' in mind, I strongly recommend the Campaign Setting Sourcebook, which has to be one of my favourite D&D products!

Hope this is a little bit helpful!

Scarogoth. :)

Population, standing armies, citizen attitudes, laws, religion, etc. Just a quick run-down, if possible. Also, how far away is Zoa from Geanavue? It's not on the map.

I didn't care for the KoK setting, but am doing a conversion of Geanavue to my own campaign setting. Need to know about these other cities to help decide where best to locate Geanavue in my world.

Hmm

Zoa: Not sure about anything, but I will write what I think to remember:

- about 45000 inhabitants.
- biggest market in the world.
- lotsa temples.
- gnomen and dwarven fugitives have "bought" a part of the city since they had problems with the local artisans.
- big harbour
- that council was mentioned... some halfelves and gnomes there too... since you sit there as long as you live :)

I think it's about a weeks travel from Geanavue.

OK, some abridged statistics

Giilia, City of Bats:
Pop: 7,100 Reanaarians, growing ever smaller due to deaths and a lack of people moving into the city, and those that are there are sombre and unhappy.
Ruler: past 200 years, Esmaran, Elven vampire, in no danger of going anywhere.
Economy: guarded, little trade with outsides, mostly self-sufficient living on cabbages, leeks and almonds which grow naturally both north and west of the city.
Military: No formal militia, as the undead offer protection enough.
Temples: won't mean anything to you, because the Gods are all different.
Esmaran has also killed all wizards that might have been in the city once upon a time. Uggurath, a monstrous ghast is chief of the Underworld, and his stench is so loathsome that his stench allows no saving throw and his touch can turn victims stone dead.
A cave complex just over a mile west of the city holds one of the largest colonies of bats on Tellene. 16,000,000 bats live in a gund underground cavern system that has yet to be fully explored by anyone, even the dwarves. There might also be mind flayers down there. The surround area teems with tribes of goblins and bugbears.

Anymore, I'm sure, would be a breach of copyright! Hope that's enough to be helpful. Giilia is nor-north-east of Geanavue, by about 98 miles as the crow flies. Zoa, you've been given some details for, but is a strange choice of other city as there are plenty of others much nearer: Aasaer, Saaniema, Xaarum to name but three. Still, for your information, it's 420 miles journey on a bearing of c. 160ºs. Most people would attempt this journey by sea, however.

It's the largest one. Aasaer is the city of pirates...That says enough for it's political value,... Saaniema is rather small I remember and Xaarum... is a better village. At least the attitude of the guys there... Xaarum is a city with 30 guilds and not much else.

Zoa is huge, many inhabitants, lotsa trade... One of the most important cities on the bay if not the most important one. Thanks for the distances.
