*hug copy of new book*

I screwed up. I never pre-ordered. I'll admit it. I was sitting at home tonight, watching the news, and I saw how the stores were lined up in Traverse City (the nearest thing to a "city" around me), and you shouldn't even bother showing up, all the copies were already spoken for... And I was like, "Oh, crap... That's tonight!"... So I figured, "Ah, hell. I'll get it next week, when stores get new shipments. But, hungry, over-weight bum I am, I got hungry, and went to wendys to get a late-night frosty. On the way back, I saw Sam Goody was open... so, out of morbid curiosity, I swung by. I went in, and, low and behold... unclaimed copies of Harry Potter, sitting on a table. I grabbed one, payed, and here I am, happy.

Um.

I'm happy. :)

Lucky Guy

I have to wait for a friend to finish hers , because I just got laid off Wed. so we can't really spend the money on extras now. I have son who eats $200 a month in formula. He is a hog. Lord you got luck though.

Some days you're the orc.
Some days you're the orc ball.

Just out of curiosity, has the new book released been in a softcover format yet? Or do we have to wait longer for that?

hard cover only I'm afraid, and I haven't seen Goblet in softcover yet either.

Seri and I went to one of the local stores. It's located in a mall, they'd been advertising their midnight opening for Phoenix for a while. They've got actors dressed as characters and everything. The line up around (yes, around) the mall was fasinating.

Then we drove 10 minutes to a store that hadn't advertised as much and didn't have anything special going on. :D

I'm on page 123, how about you all?

(THOUSANDS of people, I've NEVER seen that many people in line for ANYTHING before!)

I know there's a softcover of Goblet of Fire; I own it, picked it up here at the college bookstore (here in Japan mind you) around the end of last year.

Yeah, it was similar here, though I live in a small town... "Horizon Books" had been having huge promotions about the new book, and reports from friends who went there say it was like that... Tons and tons of people packed in. Sam Goody, a major chain actualy, had done no promotions outside of a simple little "Opening Midnight" poster, and talking with the guy there, he said that they had only had about 10 people so far, including pre-reserves (And this was about 10 minutes after midnight, so one person a minute? Not bad.)

*shrug*

In America, at least, (I can't speak for other countries), books only come out in softcover after the Hardcover has been out for, oh, at least 6 months, if not a year or better. Or direct to softcover for books that are too minor to warent a hard cover.. Harry Potter has always been really slow to come to softcover for us.

I will say that I'm going to pick up a new copy as soon as I see one in a store again, and sell this one to the used bookstore... The binding in my copy is really a bit shoddy, and the pages are kinda skewed in there. It's readable, but it's not "I collect books" perfect :)
