Dragon Magazine #274 (the first 3rd edition issue) includes an article called The Hero with 1d1000 Faces, which is a Random Adventure Generator. I've had some pretty darn-tootin good adventures witht his generator, thus I figured I'd randomly generate some here just to give some ideas! Victim- Peaceful inhabitants of small village Villain- Cruel sorcerer Hm... How about this: A small village of gnomes has been enslaved by an evil sorcerer who is forcing them to mine for bones (or something like that). Mediations- A Little Bird: A magical creature or smart animal leads the heroes to the victim One of the animal friends of a gnome come to the adventurers for help. It'd be interesting to see the ways the adventurers attempt to communicate. Obstacles- Distant Item, Guarded Item, Interdiction (heroes are forbidden by an authority), Reconnaissance (villain deploys henchmen to spy) Donations- Riddle Me This (an oracle gives a useful riddle) The sorcerer sold his soul to a devil, thus cannot die (he regenerates like a troll). The only way to kill him is to kill his body then use an ancient artifact of St Cuthbert, known as "Fate's Wrath." An old gnome oracle lady who lives in a hut in the middle of the forest can give a clue to the artifact's location through a riddle. "Fate's Wrath" is held under a temple of St Cuthbert nearby. However, the preists of St. Cuthbert don't want adventurers sneaking about in the bowels of their church, and don't really care about the gnomes. The PC's must find a way to get under the temple (maybe a secret passage?). Reward- Fabulous treasure Failure- Loss If the adventurers succeed, the gnomes give them a secret bounty of treasure that they've dug up but were hiding from the sorcerer. However, if the adventurers don't succeed, the Sorcerer takes away "Fate's Wrath" (which could bring trouble upon the characters by the priests of St. Cuthbert) and possibly enslaves them.
