As soon as I figure out how to convert from magnetic film to a digital file. Is that even possible?

It's only about two minutes long, but that's still impressive, since Peter's a busy man.

Can't you just, like, plug it into your computer and press a button or something?

Well, the videotape is too large to fit in the floppy drive. I know this for a fact.

Actually, there's no need to convert from magnetic stuff to digital stuff at all. Consider that the vid is going straight to your hard drive anyway, and that is also magnetic stuff. I also know this for a fact. Therefore, we can just cut out the middleman.

1) Remove your hard drive from your computer.

2) Remove your hard drive's protective casing to expose the actual platter. This might be a bit more difficult than step 1, but don't worry about it.

3) Remove the tape from your video cassette.

4) Using super glue, stick the tape to the surface of the platter. You could also use nails, but be careful not to damage anything.

5) Put the platter back in your hard drive.

6) Replace the hard drive in your computer.

Warning: you may void your warranty when performing the above steps. This is all right, since computers are only useful for 12 months after purchase anyway, after which they are just fancy boat anchors.

Hope this helps!

You need to find someone who has an video acquisition card. Then all you do is plug the OUT from your VCR or Video Camera into the acquisition card, and then it's a easy as Morrus said...

Maybe we should start a thread, "What would we do without Hong?"

#1 on the list would have to be, "Have much more boring lives." Shortly followed with "We would be unable to spell Peter Adkison's last name," and "Drink Foster's Beer." :)

RangerWickett, find out if your computer has a video card with AV leads. There are several programs available for pumping Audio and visual into a recording program - I have a friend who does the reverse of what you speak all the time. However, I myself haven't a clue about it. I'll see if he wants to give me some basic pointers.
