When I say I wish it had been longer, I'm not asking for more tension-less fight scenes. I wanted more time spent on the creepy stuff -- to give it a chance to actually BE creepy. The image of the GI's clustered in front of the crucifix is a genuinely creepy image, but it gets yanked away before we even realize what we're seeing. When the wind-up Nazi goes beserk, people ought to be freaking out, but we don't get a chance to see it cause we got to zip along to the next bit right away. When Rasputin is calling up the Lords of Chaos or whatever, we should be building up horror in our heads and going, "Oh, this is going to be bad," but then there's explosions and all sorts of stuff and we don't have time to wonder what's going to happen. And that's just in the first scene. Half of being scared is being DENIED information. It's when you don't know what's happening that you get really freaked. Nothing is as scary as an unopened door and I think Hellboy could have used a few long stares at unopened doors.
