I am working on an adventure that is a riff on the Beowulf myth for a party of dwarven heroes. Here are the custom monsters I'll be using for a couple of different encounters. First is the standard version and then the "Grendel" solo version. They are basically cave bears with speed, brains and endless greed.

Ravaging Mauler Info
The ravaging mauler is a cruel and cunning killer. They resemble bear-men, but with more fangs. Their fingers are tipped with long vicious claws. Mauler’s often collect the trinkets and treasures of their prey, wearing their horde on their backs, as it were.

Ravaging Mauler Info
Makos is the king of the maulers, a hulking brute with an endless appetite for dwarven flesh and gold. In combat he utilizes his Swat and Furious Leap to avoid being flanked. He is a wily foe and will focus on weaker party members and/or healers, even if he is marked. Makos makes his lair near dwarven outposts and forges, coming at night to feast and take baubles for his horde until the outpost becomes deserted or the resistance grows too strong. Then he leaves for greener pastures. Like the smaller maulers, Makos wears his treasure horde on his body in bandoliers of gold items, jewelry and even earings.
