Message: <blockquote data-quote="Dannyalcatraz" data-source="post: 4160988" data-attributes="member: 19675">Sorry- I wasn't clear- I give more reach to PCs using oversized reach weapons, assuming they are:1) Proficient with the size-appropriate version of the weaponAND2) Have some ability, device, spell, or other game gizmo that lets them wield oversized weapons with reduced or zero penalty.Some unskilled shmoe who just picks up an oversized longspear is simply up a creek without the proverbial.So the answer is yes, yes I do grant more reach in that circumstance.  Those things grant the PC the ability to wield an oversized weapon as if it were normal for them to do so- increased reach is one of those weapon attributes.Now, the standard interpretation- with which the Sage was at odds- is that reach is determined by simply doubling the creature's reach.Those (like myself) following the Sage's interpretation are reading that PHB & DMG text not as a game mechanic but as a simplified description of reach.  IOW, a standard, appropriately sized reach weapon doubles the reach of the creature for which it was designed.  An oversized reach weapon of the same type, being larger, grants some additional reach because its a bigger weapon.For giggles, I also point out that I've witnessed (used and played under) 2 different ways of following the Sage's interpretation.1) The oversized reach weapon grants reach out to the typical reach of the creature for which it is designed, but cannot be used at the normal reach for a creature for which it was designed.  For a M creature with a L reach weapon, that would mean attacking foes from 15-20', but not 5-10' away.  (Oversized weapon has size-appropriate "donut.")2) The oversized reach weapon grants reach out to the typical reach of the creature for which it is designed, but cannot be used at the wielder's normal reach.  For a M creature with a L reach weapon, that would mean attacking foes from 10-20', but not 5' away. (Oversized weapon has wielder-scaled "donut.")I personally lean towards the first.</blockquote>
