Really Expensive Stuff

The pdf of Ptolus was the most expensive RPG book I've ever bought, and it was $36 on sale.

I didn't pay that much for my 3e FRCS which was probably the most I've ever spent on a print RPG book, even though it was 30% off on amazon.

These big expensive books look nice and interesting, but I don't want to spend that much at one time. I'm happy waiting and getting good deals on other stuff I want, and there is plenty I want at lower prices.

Joe Goodman said that a number of people were turned off by the $100 price tag of DCC 51 at GenCon, despite being 760+ pages, maps, and other handouts. He says the content is equivelant to over $200 in "normal" DCC content.
maybe it'd sell better at 4 easy payments of $24.95

I definitely know it. I want DCC 51. I WANT DCC 51. I still keep having my brain throw out at me, "But its a $100.00!!"

I think when I see it on Amazon for $66.00 I can get past it.

If they sell it at that price. Last time I checked there was no price break. Maybe it's similiar to Ptlous in that manner?

That being: People seem to be less upset about products that are "REALLY" expensive, then they are about the moderately expensive ones...

Seems to me, the people who grumble about $50 and those who can't wait for the $100 boxed sets simply aren't one and the same.

Well, I never said I believed them to be...

Simply that while I see a goodly amount of grumbling over the price for 50(or so) dollar books, the most I really ever hear about the 100 dollar ones is a simple "That's more then I can afford."

We have different experiences on it, I guess. For instance, I can't tell you how many Ptolus threads have been hijacked by people unhappy with its price before the thing reached anyone's mailbox. Heck, it started right after the announcement, one year prior to its availability and went on the whole... fracking... year!

This second box set is a mega dungeon crawl, which would be a gamble for me cause I don't like my crawls to go more than five or six sessions at a time.
That's exactly my issue. I don't know that I could get a group to go through dungeon seven times or more as big as a regular DCC.

Just as soon as we're through with this Longcoat business I'm up for it . . . :)
