Rebirth of Peace - A Space Opera.

For those wondering, I'll be launching the game around tuesday or so. I'm hoping to get a few more players before we start, but we can easily promote some redshirts to PC's if we get more players later. I'll have a document stateing character creation rules (ie, allowed disadvantages etc) for those with GURPs by monday or so, and I should have decided upon the various space combat rules and how the ship operates around that time. :)

Sorry about the wait.

G'day,

I'll have a bash but don't own the GURPS book, and haven't played it before so I might be next too useless (he's the gunner right?) ;-D> I do own Savage Worlds though I haven't been able to convince any of my mates to have a crack at it yet.

Cheers

D20Dazza: ahoy! :)

Ok, for those with GURPs, here are the rules.

150 points, 40 points of disadvantages allowed, feel free to grab quirks to get to 45.
Allowed books; Basic set; Compendium 1; Compendium 2; Biotech; Robots.
All skills should be TL/11.
Cinematic rules apply, so feel free to take Rapier wit (for those john chricton wannabes).
You can take Racial advantages if you really want. I'll try to make them be useful from time to time. Explain them as Biotech.
It is a military style setup, so Rank is more important, and Wealth is unimportant (you won't be on earth long enough to spend it ;) )
I'll take a look at your sheet before the game, just to make sure everything looks good.

For those without; give me a character story and background, and choose a ship position. Give me a few ideas on how to build the guy (ie, is he strong? Charismatic? Is he a joker or is he suicidal? Both physical and mental traits help here). You can be a robot or a bio-engineered thingy if you want, and feel free to insert ideas like 'i have a robotic pet called E2D2' or 'I have the ability to shoot poisonous spines'. GURPs supports those ideas :)

Remember above all: This is space opera. Looking cool is more important than explaining how you just managed to plant a bomb on that covenant ship :P

Cool. I'm thinking maybe Gunnery. A few questions. Do we just make up a race here descriptively for you and you'll do the creation. Do we have any canon we need to stick with? What type of guns are we talking about? This may influence the size, number of limbs etc of my dude. ;-D>

I'll work on a concept over the next couple of days.

Cheers

All characters have to be human. :) However you could be a heavily engineered human. Examples from science fiction are humans adapted for mars low gravity, or for no gravity (neither is particularly appropriate unfortunately). GURPs Biotech has a large number of 'templates' including things like replaced skeletons, full sensory overhauls and the like that characters can have. Remember though, you still have to look moderately human. You can't be a wookie in other words :P

For characters, it seems D20Dazza is gunnery, Uni is either pilot or captain. That leaves most of the slots. And Yakzan says he will murder me if he has to be any kind of 'healer', heh.

A note. The ship commonly runs with all crew using IntNet. So the ship, in the real world, is pretty quiet, with lots of crewmen sitting around in (seperate) bunkers on the ship, hooked up. There is a central command deck, which is not used unless the IntNet is taken offline. When you hook into the IntNet it has it's own virtual command deck where the crew do their jobs. Engineers tend not to be in the IntNet, as they are tinkering with various ship systems in the real world. The IntNet also has a network of corridors leading to representations of various ship systems. Enemy hackers, if they get into the IntNet, will approach these to play silly buggers with your ship. The IntNet does not resemble the ships floorplan or size.

The ship itself looks like a long rectangle, with a large cube at the rear holding engines, shielding and the (very bulky) holographic distorter generators. At the front is a rounded section looking like a snow plow. This holds a large number of weapon systems. There are also weapon pods on the other sides, one on each facing of the rear cube, that can rotate to face almost any direction, except straight backwards. Each pod contains a scatter laser, with the front snowplow containing 3 scatters and a cutting laser. When the holographic generator is activiated, it can be told to show weapon pods in the same location as these, on the image projected.

The combat rules will be the Space Opera Combat System (SOCS), Compendium 2 - pages 106 - 111. However weapon damage will be properly done, and will use the damage tables from the more precise combat system just before the SOCS section. The Quicksilver counts as a Cutter for the purposes of SOCS. It has 2 shuttles, each with one scatter laser, that count as Fighters.

The precise rules for ship based combat damage will be up shortly.

Infantry weapons will basically be pistols and rifle sized. They kill NPC's sharpish, but i'll pull some numbers out if you want.

The ship has a crew of ~50. Of these, 6 are trained marines with exosuits and rifles. I'd recommend them as last resort. Or if you just want to discipline aliens :D

ok here's my concept. Going to be away till wednesday so any silence from my part does not mean I could not handle the criticism ;)

for Entsuropi:
[sblock]This is actualy an older character created for Tokiwongs mecha game but since he vanished from the boards over a year ago I think I can safely asume that game won't go on.
Anyway here you go:
Name: Lisa Kyle
Proffesion: Pilot
Hobbies: Work

Background:
Almost the complete Kyle family was killed in the crossfire of a terrorist attack on the city states she lived in fifteen years ago. The only survivor was their youngest daughter Lisa who was found in the smoldering remains of her families home by rescue teams. She had suffered severe burns, light brain damage from oxygen loss and scarred lungs from smoke inhalation. She was in the hospital for weeks and only heavy transplantation and cybernetic replacements kept her alive. A variety of smaller implants where crafted to replace parts that where too damaged to heal, including both her arms and shoulder and even small parts of her brain.
(that stuff doesn’t do anything except looking cool)
No one could ever discern if it was the heavy replacements on her body or the shock of the attack and the sight of all her family dying in the fire but after that event Lisa never showed any kind of strong feeling again and acted more like a machine than a human.
Her neural implants allow her very clear thinking and heightened reflexes, making her a gifted pilot, especialy as long as she is connected to the IntNet and not held down by slow moving flesh.
Still she is not totaly damaged and still capable of feelings, they are just burried real deep. She also has a terrible fear of fire, a remnant of her experience as a child.

Concept: Kyle is one of those oh so cool characters who could freeze water by just looking at it. Her uniform allways sits perfectly, her hair is allways straight and close to her head and even if the whole ship burns around her she will probably one raise an eyebrow.
I think "ice-queen" would be a good summary of the concept.

Skills and stuff: Well obviously she should be a good pilot since the group has to count on her being able to do that. Otherwise I'd imagine her at least a bit talented with the net and tech (doesn't have to be much but she should at least know what the stuff is about). Some cyberthing like increased strength in her arms, or whatever else you think is cool and strikes your fancy would be nice but is not important. I'm adding some one word description to various stats so that you can get an easy picture of what I have in mind. You could say these are the first thing that would come to mind if anyoen who knows the person would be asked about her:
Health: (old injuries)
Skill: (precise)
Social: (sharplooking)
Physical: (coordinated)
Mind: (analyzing)
[/sblock]

Hi Entsuropi,

I'm going to bow out thanks mate. I've been accepted into a couple of D20 PbP's and, with this being my first experience at PbP, want to get the feel before committing to a game I don't know much about (Gurps). Thanks for the opportunity though, it was appreciated.

Cheers
