Recommend New RPGs for PC

Technomancer

First Post
I traded in some old xbox games at Gamestop and have a gift card worth about $40 now, and I don't know what to do with it. I don't want to waste it, because I have a hard time shelling out that much money at once (I'm a cheapskate), and now I have an excuse.

I'm looking for new or upcoming PC RPGs. Anyone got any recommendations?

I love The Elder Scrolls games (Oblivion, Morrowind, etc). I dig the first-person perspective. I was thinking about Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (tried the demo and it was fun), but I'm worried there might not be enough story.

I also like NWN and I know NWN2 is coming out (though I understand the min reqs are pretty high, my computer might not be able to handle it). The Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games were pretty good too.

I thought about getting Dungeon Siege 2, but though I did enjoy the first one I did eventually get bored with the linearity and constant hack and slash.

What else is out or coming out that's any good?

I've heard that Dark Messiah will have decent length in game play so you might want to hold onto you cash until it is finally released. NWN2 has been moved back to November 28th.

Like you I played Dungeon Siege 1 and enjoyed it but also like you the repetiveness got a little much. I have played DS2 and I liked it better. Though still linear the graphics are really good and there is a much better plot line by far. There are a lot of cool side quests and though it is three main chapters with a lot of mini-chapters within each, some quests you began in chapter 1 can't be finished until you enter chapter 3. it was a much better designed game.

Basically I played DS2 as a filler until better RPGs come out.

I also meant to ask about Dungeon Lords. I know there were problems with the initial release, but did the silver-box deluxe version turn it into a decent game?

NWN2 certainly will provide you with the greatest CRPG value for the money.

Whether or not your computer is capable of running it, however, is a different matter.

Do you have any idea of the requirements? My system's running at 3.5 Ghz, with 1 gig RAM, and a GeForce 7600 series vidcard.

There are a few upcoming ones which seem cool...

The Witcher
Gothic 3
NWN 2

Banshee

Don't forget "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses"...

Anyway, the supposed specs for NWN2 are

"Recommended System Configuration
Processor: 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent
Memory: 1 GB System RAM
Video Card: ATI Radeon X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series or higher video card

Minimum Required System Configuration
Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 4.9 GB free hard disk space
DVD-ROM Drive: 6X speed or faster
Video: ATI Radeon 9500 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or higher
Sound: DirectX 8.1-compatible sound card
DirectX: DirectX version 9.0c (included) or higher
Multiplayer: Broadband connection for multiplayer online play
Input: Keyboard, Mouse

Though those might be outdated.

Gothic III should be good, if they managed to remove most of the bugs (as they promised :)), before the release.

Bye

Er, where'd you get this info? General consensus online (Gamestop, Best Buy, NWVault) is Oct. 31.
