[QUOTE="WarlockLord, post: 4363344, member: 40098"] Hi. Is it too late for me to submit a concept? Thalak, Shadar-kai Wizard Gerald, Human Fighter The dark-skinned emissary grumbled. "Sent to Lacerda! Why? I hate this job!" The caged monkeys chittered behind them. The wizard spat. "Monkeys. Why did it have to be monkeys?" The light skinned human spoke up. "Milord, you were the one who selected these creatures, after all." "I KNOW that. Do you think it does anything more than compound my misery?" The human shrugged. "This offer of alliance to Prince Darukan is important to the Autarch, may he be ever blessed." "Yes. But why must I present it?" "Perhaps you should not have insulted the prince to his face. While the blessed Autarch Primus has forever enshrined bold speech as a virtue, you should have predicted this." He recalled his foolishness now. There had been a hunt. The prince had made some wisecrack at his expense. He had informed the prince that His Highness was a fat, lazy fool. In retrospect, he got off lightly. Considering that they had no leverage over Darukan, he would probably fail. And he suspected the price of failure was death. "I should have, shouldn't I?" The horse whinnied. The shadar-kai, Autumn Lord Thalak of the Court of the Omnipotent Autarch, ignored it. The monkeys chattered again. "Why are we taking these things?" "Local custom demands it, milord." "Curse local custom." And with that, they entered Lacerda. Basically, Thalak is the wizard diplomat sent by the Autarch with an offer of alliance with the Prince. Gerald is his bodyguard. They start off as lord and liege, but grow much closer as they adventure. (In case it's necessary, Thalak's position is hereditary, not earned by merit. He is, however, a diplomatic veteran.)
