In case you need other potential characters: John Vareen - Human Devotion Paladin of Trithereon Custom Background: Definining Event: John had rough beginnings and was originally little more than a barfly with exceptional skill in gambling. A selfless act by a stranger when he was laying unconscious in the gutter with alcohol poisoning may have saved his life and put him on the path of the Paladin later on: -Skills: Deception, Insight -Tools: Playing card set, dice set Special feature: I propose a feature similar to either the rustic hospitality or pirate variant feature, where he doesn't gain access to places to rest or hide with locals, nor can get away with crimes committing, but has a way with locals and town guard, that if he wants to quietly go around town trying to bust gangs or stop a wife from being bashed by her husband, the town guard tend to unofficially allow his vigilantism so long as he performs actions which are reasonable, minimising bloodshed and violence, encouraging repentance etc. Traits: Born Gambler (Charlatan), I judge people by their actions (Folk Hero) Ideal: No good in pretending to be something I'm not (folk hero) Bond: I swindled and ruined a person who didn't deserve it. I seek atonement but may never be able to forgive myself (Charlatan) Flaw: I have a weakness to the vices of the city, especially the drink (Folk Hero) John doesn't particularly look the part of a Paladin, John stands 6ft 6 inches tall, is broad shouldered and muscle-bound, but his skin is weathered and scarred from his rough beginnings, his black wavy hair is often greasy and matted, he often doesn't bother shaving and he sometimes smells of alcohol and tobacco. On the surface, John appears to be no more than a mercenary, the identifying marks of his order often concealed by him under his cloak, he goes to the taverns to fit in amongst the drunkards, where he gambles, smokes and drinks, but also mingles; always walking the line when it comes to upholding the virtue of honesty; if others start asking too much about him, he tries to change the subject, buy them an ale, answer the question with a question or answer truthfully with "I'm actually a Powerful Paladin" as the punch-line to a joke; despite his shortcomings though, John is a kind and gentle man with a good heart. Sorry I might have gone overboard there.
