Wasn't this put out already as Manhunter? (Sorry, I can't download trailers, they take too long on a dial-up connection.)

If it's the novel I remember, I remember Hannibal Lector being more whiny and petulant than sinister....

He was also only in it for a handful of pages, something that I understand they've changed drastically for the new version.

Why can't they just leave good stories alone??

Because you can sell a ticket with Hopkins's Lecter much easier than you can sell a ticket with a good story.

Hopkins's Lecter and what promises to STILL BE a good story sounds fan-effing-tastic to me:
More Hopkins, more gooder.

True

Agreed.

And I will most likely go see it anyway, although I refused to see Hannibal based on the fact that I thought the book was one of the biggest pieces of crap I'd ever read...

Never pay an author millions of dollars for the movie rights to a book he hasn't written yet. It tends to take the edge off the incentive.

My understanding was that a large part of the novel for Hannibal's trouble was that Harris was having alot of trouble writing it, so it was going very slowly (and it's not like he's a fast writer to begin with) then past a point publisher pressure finally got him to just churn the last section of the book out to get it over with. It shows. The earlier parts are much better. By the ending it's just awful. Thankfully, the movie made some needed changes. But it still fell wellshort of Silence of the Lambs.

I enjoyed the book -Red Dragon- and the film -Manhunter- was good in it's on right. I'd recommend reading the novel and seeing -Manhunter- before seeing -Red Dragon- in October. You won't lose any enjoyment and the comparison of the three should be interesting.
