Red Hand of Doom in Eberron

Has anybody experience with RHoD in Eberron?

I'm going to DM it soon... and wanted to know how people tackled it... and anything *very* important to watch out for?

Since my players are reading the boards sometimes, please put plot-specific stuff into spoiler-tags.

There have been several threads about this on this board and the wotc boards.

Some are simple conversions while others are more elaborate.

What would you prefer?

Possible... searched, but Google-search isn't that efficient, and WotC-search is permadown.

Umh... the more elaborate ones?

Heres my 2 cp.

Location. There are a number of options for where you can put the RHoD in eberron. It really depends how you want to run it. The main places are

Inbetween Breland & Darguun. This usually sees Dennovar or Brindol turned into New Cyre. This one requires the most amount of work as far as I can see.
Endworld Mountains. MarkB (and I followed his lead), has placed the Elsir Vale in the Endworld Mountains inbetween the Q’Barran city of Whitefalls and the Blade Desert (Valenar/Talenta).
Byshek Mountains: This has it inbetween Droaam and the Eldeen. Check Flame Drakes PbP at the Real Adventures threads on the WotC forum for further info on placement.

Essentially the further away from the centre of Khorvaire & the 5 nations you place it the less you have to worry about things like the lightning rail, message station systems, etc etc.

Me I’ve placed it in the Endworld mounitains, simply switched the churches to Sovereign Host and Silver Flame where appropriate, made the wild elves a disparate Tairenal culture (similar to the Valenar, but less war-like and with owls instead of horses).

The Dwarves of the Hammer Halls are Droranath in my campaign (one of the PCs is a Droranath).

As for the Aspect of Tiamat, you could make her a raja, or as I’ve done (again MarkB’s idea) she’s a deranged experiment from the age of monsters that went wrong (Demons vs Dragons war).

I’ll let him explain it if he drops by…

Ah, thanks... the name-dropping also allowed me to find this thread... helpful! :)

This is what I'm doing so far.

The Dawn Way/"Dwarfroad": Built by ancient hobgoblin empire.

Brindol = New Cyre.

Dennovar: Fortified mining and industrial complex specializing in weapons and armor. Also a trade center for ore brought down from the mountains. A major prize for any army.

Mountains = Seawall Mountains. Local areas have names as in the adventure.

Hammerfist Holds: House Deneith base. Recruits goblinoids from the Seawall Mountains.

Cult of Tiamat: Rare dragon cult who believes that some dragons are superior and meant to rule lesser races. Other dragons (based on skin color) must be exterminated. Tiamat is bound in Kyber with her countless servants, but will one day return.

The Red Hand: An alliance of Dhakaani clans breaking away from the in-fighting in the Seawall Mountains. (See the ECS page 154). Azarr Kul has had some difficulties making the conservative mountain hobgoblins accept his odd new religion, but if he can prove his power and leadership ability by conquering human lands and capturing Dennovar more clans are bound to fall into line.

I have 3 ideas that I am planning for two different groups.

One was a Q'barra campaign setting it in Hope. I decided to change up the badguys and remove the goblin element.

The enemies became...
the Valenar, the elves and the people of that region are not friends
lizard-folk are not very friendly either

The owl-riding elves became glidewing riding talenta halflings
Tiamat became a mockery of dragon corrputed by the age of demons (which has a lot of history in that region).

The other was placing it up near the borders of Breland and Eldeen Reaches... making the goblins come from the mountains in that area (black something, the name escapes me), Greensinger or Gatekeeper druids can replace the Elf allies. Tiamat would maybe be a Daelkyr experiement that was being held back by gatekeepers.

My current favorite is goblin on goblin action... the players all play goblinoid soldiers from Rhukaan Draal. The area the campaign takes place in is the northern part of darguun. The Red Hand is a tribe of Dakaani that has rallied many of the smaller tribes together under one banner to take back their homeland, with the power of the dragons behind them how can they loose? The Chamber and The Lord of Blades plays more heavily in this version. THe owl riders would be changed to Forestkith Goblins. House deneith would play a roll, etc. I would say Brindol may even be the Gathering Stone.
