Red Hand of Doom - which PrCs fit best?

Hi,

I'm going to be running this in a few weeks and am currently in the planning stages. Since the players will be creating 5th level characters especially for this adventure, i'm thinking of putting together a player handout beforehand with a list of recommended prestige classes. Any thoughts? I'm probably going to use a "lite" version of Forgotten Realms' Shining South as the background so FR prestige classes are possible as well as those from the Complete books etc.

Cheers

Combat Medic, War Weaver and Dread Commando from Heroes of Battle.

Dragonslayer, Dragonstalker, Platinum Knight from Draconomicon.

Off the top of my head.

For casters, absolutely no PrCs that nerf your caster level or spellcasting ability. The adventure is tough enough without crippling your PC like that.

And warn them against the craft feats (& crafting PrCs for that matter)... there wont be any free time for the next 5 levels or so... YMMV

I really don't think there are a lot of obvious PrCs.
Anything that can continue favored enemy. Most every baddy has one of two types and very few don't have one of 3.

Class wise, I'd say warmage, warlock with fey feats, and ranger are clear winners. The first two due to the large number of mooks (the warmage can kill them, the warlock has the DR to ignore them (unless they crit for 36 points like happened on Thursday to the warlock in my game)). The ranger because of the limited baddy types and he can use a wand of CLW (which they will need).

As a DM you will get to kill the PCs. A lot. I've only killed one so far, but that's mostly because I've not done the best job running the baddies. I expect to kill more shortly.... (Just a bit into part II). If you are starting at level 5 the first big fight will kill someone.

Oh, also there are a ton of fights. Our group is _really_ slow with this (about 8 sessions to finish part 1 I'd goess). It gets painful. Also, be sure you understand the whole adventure, especially how they go from part to part.

I will agree with the Favored enemy stuff. As it is implemented, I dont quite like it that much (it just does not scale very well). However, a Ranger with Goblin as a favored enemy is going to get use out of it for a very long time. A dwarven Ranger with a Goblin favored enemy is going to get a great deal of milage out of it and be very effective.

Oh yes, this adventure really lends itself to mounted-type PCs, so stuff like Wild Plains Outrider works really well.

Because I'm going to use the Forgotten Realms as a background, I thought Shaaryan Hunter from Player's Guide to Faerun looked good.
