[Red Star] Hook & Pins in Non-Modern Setting?

Hi all

I've just picked up Green Ronin's Red Star setting (very cool!)

One thing that has caught my fancy is the idea of using the 'Hook' and maybe the Sha-Osk pins in a more D&D setting or tech level. (Minus the grenade launcher and machine gun options, of course.) Perhaps as the signature weapon of some kind of psychic warrior or something.

Perhaps the simplest thing to do would be to port the 'Red Trooper' class over as an alternative fighter, to keep the focus on that weapon, or maybe look at the single wepon focused prestige classes out there. Having Telekinesis as a skill (exclusive to the class) might be open to abuse, so perhaps it only works on bonded items.

Unfortunately I don't have either d20 Modern or the Psionics book (old or new) as yet. I
guess I will have to get them eventually ... can't have such holes in the collection ... but I might be missing some obvious things about this idea as a result.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Any problems / things to be careful with in using stuff from D20 Modern rules with other d20? Can something like this be created with the psionic rules anyway, without needing a special addition? It would take a ton of magic to create a weapon that could do all these things through enchantment ... perhaps more limitations than focusing the character on it and gradually learning the feats would be required?

I'll have to go and look at stats etc, do some work on the idea ... but I'd be really happy to hear any comments Enworlders might have.

Cheers
Malic
