Has anyone here every thought about a modern/futuristic Forgotten Realms??

High-Magic plus High-Tech.......combining Forgotten Realms with Spycraft could yeild an interesting combination....and Alternate Realms..... :) ..... For instance the "Departments" could work for organizations....such as The Harpers.....or imagine a Red Wizard of Thay Packing heat??

Hehe you can't be serious :). Let's keep things... simple with FR, it's just nice and dandy the way it is. However, technology is not something that doesn't *exist* in the realms. take the PS setting for example (linked with FR). The Modrons. Rather technologically advanced race, lawful neutral, home plane Mechanica (speaks for itself). They tend to be rather technologically advanced, but FR, itself, wasn't designed for a sci-fi basis, meant for the *Ye elden days of yore* type setting. I'm not saying it would be a *horrible* idea, but I just like to keep my good fantasy with fantasy, and sci-fi.... well, you know.

Well, comparing it with FR would make it appear sci-fi, because FR is on a fantasy premise. None-the-less, I don't really see FR working in modern times. Partially because some of the lusture about FR is the unknown, the wilderness, the unexplored, etc... By setting it in modern times, you really would hamper alot the FR backbone. Then again, FR is home to such figures as Artemis Enteri, Drizzt Do'Urden, Elminster.... you get the picture. By throwing FR in modern times, these characters would become nothing more than myths at most. Besides, how would you explain elves in a futuristic FR? Being free-spirits, you think they would actually survive in a world flooded with power-hungry humans who strive for technology and wield guns, cars, missiles, etc...? I just don't see it happening. The wilderness aspect would surly die out.
