Redesigning The Raven: Corbin Eldridge

I frequently end up rebuilding major NPCs from the ground up for adventures. I'm about to start Quoth The Raven for my group, so Corbin's getting a makeover. I'd love to hear some suggestions from you guys on directions to look at! Making him less complex would be a wonderful starting place...

Any thoughts on using duskblade as his main class? I've never seen one in play before, so it's tempting for that reason alone.

I'd go beguiler, actually. Duskblade is rather skill-poor for a guy who's supposed to be a genius, master of disguise, talented poet, sneaky murderer, bad-guy-persuader-to-help... uh, -er.

Maybe make him a rogue/warlock, concentrating on all the Swarm abilities they get; that would fit in with his summoning masses of creatures to help him.

On the skills front, we use a 28 point buy so his Int will be decent out of the gate. We also have a house rule of all skills are class skills, and a further kicker of +2 skill points per level (+8 at 1st). He ought to be fine for skills with any class.

I'd forgotten about the two swarms - I actually dismissed them summarily when reading over the adventure. Last time this group encountered a swarm like that, it was toasted by the swift action of the first person to act. :D

I just came across the Master of Masks PrC in Complete Scoundrel last night, and I've got to admit that it's extremely tempting. A few levels in that could give him some diversity, and it fits thematically with his mask thing.
