Message: <blockquote data-quote="Wombat" data-source="post: 2605725" data-attributes="member: 8447">Okay, so this is post #3000 for yrs trly.  I missed the traditional 1000 posting announcement and I know that I will never catch up with the Great Posters of our community, so I thought I'd just give some reflections now  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=";)" title="Wink    ;)"  data-smilie="2"data-shortname=";)" />In many ways I am an odd duck in this community.  I'm okay with that.  D&D is not my first choice of games, nor is D20 necessarily.  Equally, I am 46 years old, which puts me a bit above the common curve that way.  Yet I love gaming, have for 30 years, and have really enjoyed posting here, and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.I first joined this board in the wake of the switch to 3e.  Man, what a seachange that was -- I was one of the Lost Lambs of D&D brought back to the fold, if somewhat tenuously at first, happy to see a more streamlined set of rules.  I hadn't done anything serious (more than a couple of games) with D&D for over a decade, but 3e made me give it a second look and what I saw I was happy with.  Since that time I have run three campaigns using D20 rules, 1 semi-silly RAW, 1 heavily modified and very creepy, and 1 swaschbuckling based more on AE/AU & Skull & Bones.  All of these have been fun for me and my gamers; who could ask for anything more?But about ENWorld in particular...There are some truly amazing people on this board.  I'm not going to name specific names for fear of leaving anyone off, but my thanks go out to you.  Look at the strength of the community during the server drive.  Look at the kindness and generousity of this board in the wake of natural disasters.  And look at those postings made here by community members during times of personal crisis and the kind, helpful, and generous responses they have entailed.  That really is what a community is all about; you have to stand in a bit of awe over that.  Truly amazing what happens when people care.There have been great laughs here -- the filk songs, the "you would NEVER believe what happened in my last session" threads, the oddball questions, the humourous, purposeful and otherwise.  There have also been great threads on aiding games, both specific and general.  I always loved the "Monday History" threads and the "1000 Great Links for Gamers"; that's like lifting up the hood of the car and starting to tinker -- that as LOT of fun and inspiration!  There have been newbies who have come here with questions who have come here for advice and come away with enough to run whole campaigns.  There have been old hats trying to figure out how to refurbish a setting and come away with pure gold.  And, yes, there has been the occaisional flame war  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=";)" title="Wink    ;)"  data-smilie="2"data-shortname=";)" />Overall, though, you have to love it here.  Unlike other boards I have seen, it's okay to mention games other than D&D or D20 here; there are fans of these games as well.  The knowledge and depth of background various people have regarding movies, books, tv, computer games, design programs, creative writing, history, and all the rest makes this place a treasure trove for all sorts of gamers.Yeah, we all have our personal likes and dislikes.  Yeah, we sometimes disagree.  In the aggragate, however, this place is thoughtful, kind, generous, and absolutely amazing.Here's tae us, wha's like us?Slainte!Angus "Wombat" MacDonald</blockquote>
