Regarding character creation rules

Tiefling

First Post
For a while I've been thinking up some interesting things that I'd like to do with the d20 System, but invariably they involve tweaking the system enough that rules would be needed that might be construed as character creation rules. This is, of course, prohibited in the d20 System Guide, but I'm not sure exactly what would qualify as character creation rules.

Obviously if I were to say, for example, "When a character is created, the player assigns three points between the three types of Saving Throws in whatever combination he desires," that would be character creation rules. But suppose I said, "A first level character has three points distributed between the three types of Saving Throws in whatever combination the player desires." Technically it's not describing the process of creating the character, but it obviously implies it. Would that be violating the letter of the Guide?

Why not just drop the d20 logo and release under the naked OGL? You can do anything you want then. Or were you planning on publishing this as a paper book?

Why not place that as an addition to all first level classes? It doesn't seem like a character creation thing, as much as an alternate class thing.

You could make it into a feat, and give this feat to every character class in your setting. Thus in practice everyone has it, but it isn't "character creation".

This is what Atlas did with the Sanguar feat in their Nyambe book. It replicates the monk's level-based AC bonus, with a few tweaks. All the native character classes get Sanguar (even spellcasters), to make up for the lack of heavy armour.

Or just make it a class ability and give it to all classes if you are making your own unique classes.

That's ingenious. The only problem is that another one of the modifications is that there aren't any classes. :)

Make a generic class, "living beign", and discuss all about that "class"

;)

Well, the legal thing only prohibits info on character creation, not character re-creation.

For example. "After you make your character using the core rules, your character immediately dies, and you must recreate him, using the rules I will present now."

:) I'm just kiddin', okay?
