I study it from my hiding place, a dozen meters distant, shivering slightly in the chill air.</p><p></p><p>The landing ramp is open, and for the moment, unguarded.</p><p></p><p>I bolt from cover. My heart is pounding in my ears. I run across the clearing, dash up the ramp, into the dark cargo bay of the Imperial ship....</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><strong>WHO AM I?</strong></p><p></p><p>My name is Roark Garnet. I'm what you might call a galactic entrepreneur. I'm the captain of the <em>Dorian Discus</em>, and I was making what you might call an unscheduled delivery on New Bakstre when I ran into that Imperial Attack Transport. What in the seven moons where they doing here? The Empire has no interests this far out in the New Territories. The Emperor seems to be tightening his grip, squeezing out every credit he can from every place possible. Well, that's usually OK with me. That's how I make a living. It's my business knowing how to step around these Imperial entanglements.</p><p></p><p>But, this time, they caught me by surprise. The cruiser forced me down, and we hit the forest hard. The transport grounded itself not far from our crash point, and a squad of men in white quickly combed the area. They captured Hawk. It looked like they wounded him, too. Hawk Carrow is my co-pilot.</p><p></p><p>Now, I'll tell you. I don't give two hoots about the Rebellion or the Empire.
