Reincarnate your way to a better halforc

0-hr

Starship Cartographer
The Reincarnate spell says to remove your racial adjustments and then apply the ones from the table (which only has STR, DEX, and CON). So if a halforc is reincarnated, he erases the STR bonus and INT and CHR penalties, then adds the STR bonus from the table. Doesn't this leave him 2 points smarter and more attractive than he was before dying?

No, you first remove racial adjustments to STR, DEX, CON, and then apply adjustments.

That is what he said... Remove +2 Str, -2 Int and -2 Cha... Then (per the Reincarnation table) add +2 Str... Hence, he is now smarter and more charismatic than he was before dying.

You only remove the Physical Adjustments (STR, DEX, CON), then you 'only' re-apply physical adjustments for the new Race. INT WIS CHA are unchanged completely through the process.

1/2orc to 1/2orc = net zero gain.

One cannot just read the eliminate sentence in a vacuum.

Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores depend partly on the new body. First eliminate the subject’s racial adjustments (since it is no longer of his previous race) and then apply the adjustments found below to its remaining ability scores.

Racial adjustments here refers to the previous sentence of Str, Dex, and Con, not all racial adjustments.

The right way to do this is to start out as a human, then die and have yourself reincarnated as a half-orc. You gain the Strength bonus without the corresponding penalties.

That's how we wound up with a full-orc rogue in our party where the halfling used to be...

Cut rate adventurers, we are! :)

Do remember that you lose a level or 2 points of CON for be reincarnated, just like being raised. Although if you're playing a race with a con penalty and a mental bonus, that might balance out...

Oh yeah, it's also random as to what race you get. So you may be reincarnated as, say, a goblin.
