The movie was originally ment to stand on its own, where Ft13 & especially Nightmare were designed to have sequels from the start. You could argue that Ft13 has a better chance, given that Jason wasn't the villian until the 2nd film, but given the way things are done in Hollywood these days, they'd just forget that the first time around it was Jason's mother doing the killings.
