Remember "The Gamers: Dorkness Rising"?

Legend
Dead Gentlemen Productions are re-releasing it on Blu-Ray. Judging by where their Kickstarter is currently sitting there are good odds that they'll make their basic total by tomorrow morning. Beyond that it gets into stretch goals that will flesh out the rest of the disk's space. That will be cast commentaries (even more than the original), more material, deleted scenes, behind the scenes stuff.... You get the picture.

I've got the original on DVD. I don't even have a Blu-Ray player. I've supported this and will get a drive, because I like the movie so much ;)

I'm quite a fan of the third movie, "Hands of Fate", but "Dorkness Rising" has more laughs per minute. They made their goal within a couple of hours of my post and are quickly approaching their "dual-layer Blu-Ray" goal. There aren't a lot of DG fans out there but those who are fans, are incredibly loyal :)

I thought HoF was the weakest of the three. It really felt like it was preaching to us, to the detriment of both the story and the comedy.

(And yes, they were right in their message, and yes there is a problem with sexism in gaming, and yes there is a need to keep raising awareness. None of those facts serve to improve HoF as a piece of entertainment.)

There were a lot of comments about it not being a "true" Gamers movie, preachy, etc.. I think that it just hit at the wrong time, with things leading up to Gamergate. If their production times weren't so long, of necessity, they'd have been well ahead of the curve. It's also a more well rounded story, that doesn't stick to just gaming memes. To my mind it showed their growth as film makers from a technical point of view, as well as the development of their acting abilities. Trinn Miller's portrayal, especially on the sidewalk just after that first tournament game, was particularly strong. Some of the most harsh criticism I've heard about "Hands" actually came from ZOE folks, themselves.

Many may think like you, that it's the weakest of the three, but I still very much enjoy it. As I've told several of the folk involved, I never thought that I'd give a damn about card floppers ;)

Perhaps. Personally, I didn't connect it so much with Gamergate as with ENWorld's "season of sexism" (or whatever it was called). Either way, if I want preached to, I'll watch He-Man. :)

Oh, absolutely. From a technical and acting standpoint, it's clearly the best of the three.

But from a technical standpoint, the Star Wars prequels are leagues ahead of the classic trilogy. And the actors are much better too (which is not quite the same as saying the performances are better...). :)

Well Gamergate started around the same time and bled through in various ways, into collective culture. Things had been building to a head for years, with the CosPlay community leading the charge.

"Humans and Households" and "Natural 1" were shot in my neck of the woods, as a co-operative effort with Lynnvander Productions, and also show a bit of their technical improvements.

There is only the classic trilogy. Nothing else exists. (fingers in ears saying "Lalalalalalalalalalala!")

So a re-release of "Dorkness" blows through their primary goal in 12 hours. They hit their favoured stretch goal in under 24 hours. In a little over a week they triple their goal.

... and Kickstarters for "Pilot Season" and "Natural 20" are cancelled because they're headed for failure?
