Vespazian and Co. Tsu'koka is content to let his beast amble along a few yards behind Vesparzian. His eyes rove across the landscape, but there is little to see here. His fingers occupy themselves with the mace that lies accross his lap, and his mind occupies itself going back over the various combinations of songs and spells that have been used on various units and individuals for various ends and with various degrees of success. Of course, knowing what has happened means little. No two battles were the same. One had to understand what has happened before to gain any wisdom from it. And to this end Tsu'koka devotes himself. For Tsu'koka has never been naturally able at this. Soui'jar had been a master, able to understand the forces at work and turn a battle through the use of spell and song on pivotal units and individuals. A little force is given great leverage if one can see the appropriate pivots. Tsu'koka regreted killing him. The dying Song Speaker's smile and last words still haunted Tsu'koka. He knew that there was wisdom in them somewhere, but he had not been able to find it. Of course, Soui'ja had had great battle and campaigns in which to learn to read the beast. Where as Tsu'koka had spent most of his service doing petty dog work. Even the battles had mostly been petty. Petty battle for petty masters. Enough! Tsu'koka's snarl is loud enough to draw a glance from the Marshall. If you want to wallow in self pity, cut yourself and join the orcs. There is no end to the orcs self pity. Goblins have more grit than orcs. Hobgoblins have no time for self pity. Greatness is not given. The sudden reappearence of the gnolls, followed shortly by the giant (and the third gnoll) returns Tsu'koka back to the here and now. Tsu'koka releases the spells that had been unwinding themselves in his mind, relaxes a little and settles back in the saddle to see what came next.
