Replace Summon Familiar with???

I'm thinking about allowing a player (who is making a wizard) to swap out Summon Familiar for another magic-type feat. I'm thinking something along the lines of Eschew Materials. But not a metamagic feat that directly increases spell power.

Any suggestions?

Spell Focus and Eschew Materials are both good choices. I think there are some other choices that could be interesting too, and not all of them are feats.

I've allowed these options, in each case, I required the player to give me a background story that helped explain it. 1) A better assortment of weapons, 2) low-light vision, 3) 6 hit points at first level, 4) resistance 5 to one energy type.

If you're going to go with feats, I think that picking one that doesn't have any prerequisites is a good bet (Dodge, Run, Toughness, etc.).

I have a standard house rule that allows wizards or sorcerers to forego the familiar with any bonus feat. Hasn't been a problem yet.

For those evil spellcasters...

Plots & Poison (a book on drow, so its fitting...) had a feat that allowed a spellcaster to summon a familiar.... THEN ABSORB IT!!! :] The character received the bonuses imparted on them for having the familiar (cats +2 hide, Toads +2 to Con, etc) but they were never allowed to summon another familiar.
