Reputation (B*stard DM) + 2?

Arrgh! Mark!

First Post
My group has a number of GM's in it, me being the main GM and two others occasionally.

Anyway, each of us has managed to pick up a reputation. One guy is a pot-head stoner who loses the plot despite a good beginning, one guy has a reputation for his games just being hilarious no matter what.

I have a reputation for being a hard-arse. I have no idea where it came from, but it's fairly interesting to see how it evolved; fantasy nerd turned GM wants to run heavy RP games.

Now, am I a hard arse if I use techniques like "Cut! take two!" if one of the players starts mooning the dragon or something?

Hey, I reward as well. Like training a puppy.

What reputation do you have as a GM?

I have a decent reputation as a DM. My adventures seem to be pretty good. My only problem is that since I enjoy writing, I end up turning the adventures into stories and NPCs do what I want them to do, whether they would realistically do that action or not. I'm working on this, however. :) The main reputation I have in my group is using clever tactics and making annoying NPCs. One thing which occurs often is that I'll be beating them down and their like 'How can this get any worse?' when I look at some ability and go 'Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that.' Of course I say it out loud and the group groans.

Well, those are the things I'm known for in my group. Oh, and that I tire of my adventures before anyone else while in every other campaign and I end it while for everyone else, the group dislikes the adventure and stops the DM from continuing.

My reputation as a GM is that of a pretty fun, rad one -- but, like yourself, a hard-ass. When I first started running RPGs I had these incredibly lofty RP goals, but since I've degredaded to requiring at least a paragraph of backstory and having heavy RP be optional. HOWEVER, I do reward the bulk of my XP for good RP, thus hack-and-slashers tend to be a few levels behind in my games.

Don't get me wrong, I love RP, but I realize that most people don't do the whole lengthy backstory, special voice and posture, etc. thing like me, so I try to make the game fun for those players as well. I try and cater to every style of player I've got. Group of heavy RPers? Expect combatless sessions pretty often. Hack-and-slashers? Waves of critters.

But usually it's a mix, so moderation is the key.

I'm known to stick to the rules as much as possible, but always go the extra distance that the rules don't cover when necessary. And I don't baby my players -- the campaign world exists independantly of them (in most cases), things will happen with or without them, if you go blundering into a horrible demon's lair at too low a level you'll still die. Get to rollin'.

I've got my Rat Bastard DM scout badge. :]

When I DM´d for our local RPGA Living Greyhawk group a player called me "The Butcher from Berlin". :] Or was it "The Slayer ..."?
And that´s only because in the games I ran there were the most deaths (failed saving throw, critical hit on an AoO). Hey, I don´t kill PCs, monsters kill PCs.

Games reflect the tastes of the DM

I tend to be role play lite, mostly as a limitation of my RP skills. The characters I role play best are tend to be hostile and beliggerant yet entertaining nut balls of some sort. There are pretty much no helpful inn keepers or plucky waitresses in my campaigns. But there are plenty of entertaining nut jobs.

Also, my grunt types tend to be more organized then not. If the players encroach on the territory of most humanoids, and decimate a patrol, usually someone ran away, and will come back later with help.

My reputation:
Gives good roleplay: +4
Killer DM: +1
Mad Plotter: +3
Twisted and strange creatures: +2
Entertaining: Campaign six years and running, playing with same core group for almost ten years, had waiting lists of players wanting to play in my game when it was weekly.
Tactician +1

With my current group, I think I have developed a reputation for being a killer GM. It's just that I feel totally innocent for having had three character deaths while the group has just made 6th level...

Also, I am constantly working on gaining a reputation as a RatBastardDM, but I'm not sure I qualify yet. Other reputations would include being too open-ended and lacking adventure structure (it's actually my saving grace that I've stooped to DMing the Shackled City AP with some more or less severe modifications) and being a story-minded DM. Maybe also a house-rule-frenzy DM, but I'm battling that addiction full force :)
