Thank God the designers of the City of Heroes computer RPG have apparently made a good game! I say that because after jonesing for a supers RPG campaign for YEARS, that game has inspired my game group to consider trying a superhero RPG. Because of certain group dynamics, most of the players are familiar with only 2 game systems currently in print- D20 and Palladium. I have also expounded upon the merits of HERO, especially for a supers campaign, so whatever supers RPG we play will be one of those systems. I have a PC design in mind, and plan on designing him in all 3 systems so I'll be prepared and so I can help the less experienced players along. I have designed the character in Heroes Unlimited 2Ed because it is the most limited of the 3 systems. I'm a HERO veteran, so designing my PC in that system is a snap for me. However, I need help with D20. If we do D20, we'll either use Silver Age Sentinels D20 or Mutants & Masterminds. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. The D20 version doesn't need to be a mirror image, it just needs to capture the spirit of the PC. In Heroes Ulimited 2Ed, the PC is: Channel Zero (from the Public Enemy tune): (Stats as yet undetermined) 20-something urban black male who controls sonic, radio, and microwave energy- essentially a human radio station. Since he is not super-tough, he wears kevlar body armor underneath a jet-black baggy hoody sweatshirt and urban camo cargo pants, and carries either a bat or a nightstick (undecided); might carry a firearm. Combines his breakdancing skills with knowledge of capoira to be a deceptively difficult melee combatant. Always has an iPod- loves music of all kinds. Major Power: Sonic Power- Super Hearing; Sonar; Disorienting Ultrasonic Whine; Sonic boom/blast of concentrated damaging sound. The Whine and Sonic Blast are all samples from rap, industrial, techno or heavy metal tunes- "99 Problems," "In da club," "Eruption," "Psalm 69," etc. Minor Powers: Flying Force Disc- Can fly 50mph/level on disc-shaped energy field; can be thrown as a "Tron"-like projectile. The Flying disc looks like a large speaker cone when it manifests- it levitates seemingly by force of extremely loud hooks from popular rap or industrial tunes from all genres and ages (while loud- the sound energy is insufficient to levitate anything for more than a split second). When used as a projectile, the discs resemble CD's, and they release a burst of sonic energy when they hit their target. This sounds like a piano or guitar being broken. Frequency Absorbtion- Jam Transmission (radio/TV/satellite/microwave); RF Transmit/listen 300 mile radius (can also hear but not see TV transmission); Absorb microwaves without damage; GPS- can use it like he had a GPS reciever; Sense communication systems with accuracy. Uses this power to monitor police frequencies, to announce his presence via TVs and Radios ("This is CHANNEL ZERO! Surrender now!), and occasionally for distractions ("I'm over here! No, over HERE!"), and, of course, to navigate. Warp Sound- Disguise, amplify, silence, muffle, change Sound/voice; bend/redirect soundwaves; parry sonic attacks. Useful on those rare occasion when he wants to be subtle or quiet. Edited to clarify certain portions.
