The following is a character i built as part of an Epic Level Challenge run between myself and a group of friends. We are to defend a City from Invasion by somewhere between 500,000 to 1 million enemy troops (give or take room for several very high level enemies). We are provided with 3 Epic level NPC characters built using the same rules as our own characters, a number of 20th lvl NPCs, and 200,000 some other NPC units. Our characters are to be created according to the following rules. ECL 30 lvls 1-20 may be done gestalt (See Unearth Arcana or below for more details) lvls 21-30 may not be. You may not have a prestige class on both sides of a gestalt at the same time, only on one side of the Gestalt. you may (house rule) buy 4 non-epic feats at 100gp a feat and you may buy 3 epic feats at 1000gp a feat. You have the standard 4,300,000gp to spend on equipment, troops, magic items, etc. There are 6 players. My character is as follows: Race: Halfling one side of the Gestalt is 20 lvls of straight Sorcerer, no prestige class. The other side of the Gestalt is 14 lvls of Paladin and 6 lvls of ranger. this is followed by 1 lvl of Beastmaster, 1 lvl of Epic Sorcerer, and 8 lvls of halfling Outrider. Feats of importance: -Leadership (grants a cohort and followers) -Dragon Steed (the paladin may have a dragon serve as its special mount) -Extra Followers (Double the number of Followers) -Natural bond (+3 effective Druid lvl for determining benefits granted to animal Companion) -Devoted Tracker (Paladin Mount may be treated as animal companion, ranger and druid lvls stack for Favored Enemy and Smite Evil) -Dragon Cohort (You may select a Dragon as your cohort, and subtract 3 from its ECL for the purposes of determining what dragon you may have as a Cohort) Epic Leadership (Increase in number of followers and max lvl of Cohort) Legendary Commander (multiple number of followers by 10) Epic Spellcasting (cast epic spells) Reasons: the entire point of this character is to have lots of Dragons... and 2 have a Dragon steed that at the least has lots of HD. As such... Paladin: necessary to gain Dragon Steed feat, makes good use of charisma, which benefits leadership feat. Ranger: free archery feats, lots more HD for dragon, Devoted Tracker only works with Ranger. Beast master: +4 effective Druid lvl Halfing Outrider: helps with the whole riding thing. This class also stacks with both paladin and Ranger simultaineously for determining the effective paladin and Druid lvls for the paladin's special mount and the Druid's (ranger's) animal companion. effective paladin lvl: 22 Effecitve Druid lvl thanks to Natural Bond: 18 Dragon's total hit Dice: 27 Sorcerer: Charisma is the main ability score, this stacks with both paladin and leadership feats. Epic Sorcerer: filler Leadership: this gets me lots of extra troops and lots of casters who can contribute spells to make my epic spells ridiculously cheap (spellcraft DC 11 for all of them, 99,000gp each) so it's easy for me to cast Epic Spells. Epic Spells per day: 3 Epic Spells known: 5 -Summon 10 old gold dragons - +30 AC for a year -Permanent reflection of all spells of 1st through 9th lvl -Absorption and then redirection of slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage, up to 40 per attack, can hold up to 150 before backfire, can redirect as ranged touch attack to deal all or some of absorbed damage. Automatically expires and discharges 1 month after being cast. -Lightning bolts come down from the sky, deal 30d20 per hit, spell covers 2 mile radius, lasts 20 hours, reflex save for half damage, hits anything within affected square for up to several miles into the sky Other spells include more spells than summon dragons, and a magic item that summons dragons. My cohort also has a dragon cohort, and theoretically my dragon companion can ALSO have a dragon cohort. various magic items to enhance ability scores, grow dragons to colossal size, increase both offense and defense, increase my ability to cast spells, etc. I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, questions, concerns, worrying rules conflictions or violations, or praise and words of awe you may have. Yes, we really are that bloody bored. EDIT: Gestalt Gestalt is the idea (from Unearth Arcana) of taking 2 classes side by side. you recieve all the class abilities of each, all their skills are class skills, etc. You take the bigger hit die, the larger hit points, the better base attack bonus, and whichever base save bonus (on a save by save basis) is better. This results in much more powerful characters who can perform much larger combat and social roles. generally, it just lets you have lots more fun (though a DM may find it all to be a headache)
