Requesting the aid of enworld creative minds for making a D&D style rigger...

I'm in the habit of creating sci-fi PrC's, especially for Dragon Star, and I have another idea I want to try.

This one revolves around specializing in piloting by remote operation. Typically, a pilot in DS can remote pilot without penalty (actually 'senses' as if they were the vehicle throught the link) provided they have access to a remote rig, the Remote Operations feat, a full I/O brain port, and the vehicle is rigged for remote operation.

I'm gaining some inspiration from Shadowrun's Rigger class, but this is a world with magic equal to Fearun as well as tech!! We can do so much more!! I have my own books, ideas, and inspirations, but that's hardly all encompassing.

So, what would you suggest?? :)

Well, I'll jump in- you'll need:

1) Either an Arcane or Psionic PC with powerful Clairsentient, Clairaudient, and Telekinetic abilities...or some kind of Astral Projector. Divine types could work too, but I think you're wanting something not attached to the divine.

2) Specialized scrying devices might also be of use. Variant crystal balls or scrying mirrors, for instance, that serve as a HUD. Heck, the vehicles themselves might just have to be chock-full-O-magic...with attuned steering controls, etc. mystically linked to piloting beds in specially guarded chambers...

3) Lots of skill points, mostly dumped into piloting skills. As hard as piloting is in person, remote piloting introduces additional mental challenges.

(PS: you might want to cross-link your other thread to this one.)

Now why does that reminded me of a fourth season ENTERPRISE episode, that featured an offshoot of the Andorians?

Is this a new (magic?) tech being invented and soon to be mass-produced, or there is a rumor of such lostech, an artifact much like a spelljamming helm but can operate ships remotely.

Well, I developed a Cyberpunk-genre gearbook that includes a class with those properties.
Aside from just pushing it (http://enworld.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=4934&) I'll say that action points really are great for chases and as starting points for PrC abilities. A spell that performs automatic actions (like contingency, but for vehicle operations) would be extremely helpful. Evasion is also an excellent ability to map onto a vehicle. Plus, any ability that allows the vehicle to become the location of gthe caster for spells and other abilities would be a plus. Maybe you can inscribe a rune on the hood that lets you channel your spells from the front of the veicle while you sit in your rig elsewhere.

Mass-producction using Iron Kingdom rules for magic items. Given the size of the 'kingdom', we can say it's been around long enough to become part of the background unless you're in the industry.

The tech actually already exists. I'd like to make a PrC for those pilots who specialize in its use.

Great suggestions all, but I was looking to create a PrC whose abilities couldn't easily be reproduced with items. Or at least made more sense to have it as a character ability as opposed to a vehicle mode.

Pilots already gain a type of evasion, but the PrC could increase the effectiveness or times per day it could be used.

Unfortunately, we aren't using action points in the game.
