Resize Weapon spell?

Our group recently found a Rapier of Frost that our rogue would just love to use. Unfortunately she is a halfling and this is a medium sized rapier. As the party wizard (currently 8th level), I'd really like to do something to help her out, but I can't find any spells that will change or shink this from a medium weapon to small weapon.

Is there such a spell, or some other way to do this?

If not, I could proably make my own spell (I think). What level do you think this would be:

Reduce Weapon
Duration: 1 day per level
Target: 1 unattended (possibly magical) weapon
Effect: decreases original size by one category (minimum Diminutive)

Any help is much appreciated.

There's a spell out there somewhere called "Change Weapon." I'll see if I can find the actual source and text for you.

It allows you to change one weapon into another weapon of the same size category, while retaining any special abilities. For instance (as has happened in my current campaign), the part caster has often changed my fiancee's masterwork falchion into a masterwork heavy flail if we know we're about to fight a bunch of undead.

The spell lasts 1 minute per caster level and is, I think, a 1st-level divine spell.

So, based on that...

You don't want to change weapon types, only size. I'd call that a wash.

You want it to last longer - specifically, you want it to last a *lot* longer. That's a major level increase.

Initial guess, it's a 3rd-level spell that lasts for 10 minutes per caster level, and allows you to change a weapon's size up to one step for every 4 caster levels (similar to Greater Magic Weapon).

Spend about 1500 gps and get a Polymorph Any Opbject cast on it.

Polymorph any object would not work, it needs to be a non magical item as far as I recall (don't have my books here...)

I've been having the same problem with a Giant Mage PC who "almost" never finds any weapon for his size and wants to enlarge some of the magical loot found (his only weapon is a self-made magical quarterstaff). Maybe a change weapon size spell is all that is needed...
I like your version but you could reduce the spell duration and add the possibility to "Permanency" it.. don't you think?
