Resizing plate mails

How long does it take to refit a full plate mail? Normal Craft rules? What happens if the mail is magical? Must someone with the Craft Arms and Armor feat be involved in the process, or can a normal smith do it by himself?

I was looking into resizing some leather for our halfling thioef a while back. I don't recall if there are actually rules for resizing armor or not. We houseruled that resizing armor removed the magicality of it.

If its non magical - refiting it to another person in the same size catagory - the PHB
"Each suit of Full Plate must be individually fitted...resizing costs 200-800 gp "
it is the only aromr that mentions that its necessary - although there is room or HR about fitting other armors to oddly proprtioned people. There are other rules for non-humanoid armor.

If it is magical it should refit automatially within the size catagory. (ie elf to dwarf)
this is based on the rules for magic garmets on pg213 - and the division of armor and weaapons into size catagories.

If you are trying to refit it to another size catagory, and it is non magical - it cant be done offically.

If it magical and you are resizing to a new size catagory you need to add the sizeing power: +1 equv. (from arms and equipment I believe)

Most Magic Items will Re-size to fit the wearer (assuming no gross change in size or appendages). An orc to Elf is fine. Hill Giant to Thri-kreen is right out.

As most armor is (esp the heavy's) made to pretty specific specifications, the chances of finding a Magic Armor that Actually Fits is pretty remote, unless you allow for magical armors (and clothing) to resize.

I think the DMG states to what degree Magic Armors re-size (I know it does for the various boots in the Wondrous Items Section). But I've played it that way since 1st edition so I can't honestly say if 3.5 still has the 'Official' resizing rules.

As for non-magical armors. Full Plate is custom made, so it will have to be altered. As long as the intended wearer is close to fitting in the suit, you can get by with a Simple Craft Check DC 10-15 as all you have to do is re-adjust a few straps here and there. If any peices have to be re-forged/replaced (ie Dwarf Full Plate to Human Wearer) you'll need to recraft the item. I'd say pick a percentage (say 20% fo the above). Then just treat it as a Craft (Armor) check using the standard Craft Rules (Ie successful check equals X amount towards completion).

Significant Magical Augmentations aren't covered by the rules, but I'd say someone with the Craft Magic Arms and Armor would need to be involved to make a Suit of +1 Full Plate fit a Thrikreen or Centaur. Costs would be up to DM.

As a DM, I'd houserule that the centaur can wear human fullplate as a breastplate. For fullplate, he'd have to pay the difference in cost for fullplate barding.

Two humans can wear a suit of magical barding, but only as a single unit: one as the front of the horse, the other as the back.
