Ath the real heart of the matter is you have a character that is real powerful how when a 'new evil sweeps the land" does he/she stay at home (examples that were given) wipeing tables down at his bar, brooding in his tower when the chance of redemption is at hand. In my current campaign we are getting up there in lvls. My Dm in the past has used the "I'm unmotivated" attack on our characters. He says that he has a new idea for some low lvl characters and never has the motivation to plan for the older group. So our current group has surpased all others in terms of lvl and we are trying to keep going. So i was wondering If you have a group of powerful people why would they not step up to the plate and fight. Their heros afterall. I mean everyone knows Elminsters shows up every now and again to help out or give some advice. For those people who have had characters start towns, schools, build castles, monistaries etc how do you deal with the senerio that "an evil cult has sprung up in your back yard" and you have done nothing. For some characters (magic users) age really is no factor. They can cast spells and make potions that take care of the pesky ageing problem. There is a related thread that deals with character death. do dms try and snipe out the high lvl cahracters so they don't have to deal with them?
