though I'd much rather have a big arse Undermountain

A dungeon built into a butte would be interesting.

The sequel could extend north into twin mountains. Hey! A world spanning crossover with the Barrier Peaks!

The TA series... I like the sound of that.

On a more serious note: that's a big, sprawling map. I'm curious to see how it plays out with the increased access to powerful mobility and divination stuff - if it's got defined "boss areas", I could see a lot of that map going to waste once the party can teleport and scry.

There is. It's called the collon but to get there, you have to travese through the maze of the intestine and fight through many terrors.

Indeed, my current (and 10 year long) FR campaign started as an Undermountain Delve back in 2nd edition. It's really quite a hoot for a DM, because even if they map well, the gates of Undermountain always repopulate the monsters with something new, teleportation is warded against, as is most scrying. There are some unique ways around it, but the best part is the fact that the place is full of portals, in, out and around the dungeon. The players in my run are now on a save the world quest, but strangely, they often find that they must return to the depths of Undermountain every so often to do a favor for someone who can help them, or to find a clue or reagent needed for their grand quest.

I love the maps, you can often come up with wacky stuff to put in various places, and the whole dungeon is really a set of footholds and defended rooms of various creatures and factions (some detailed, most you get to come up with) all trying to survive long enough to get out, or garner enough domination of an area to enact bigger plans.

I love that dungeon. And the traps are the best...

That's correct (looking at his map from B1).

Well, at least thsi case of using an old TSR/WotC map is legit.

Wow - that's interesting. Maybe I should go check out the other undermountain maps...
