Return to ...

So the last "Return to ..." adventure was RttToEE in 2001. Back in 2E, there were "Return to ..." adventures for Keep on the Borderlands, Tomb of Horrors, White Plume Mountain, and Against the Giants.

Is it time for another "Return to ..." adventure for 3.5? I think so ... the Isle of Dread feature on Dungeon was a nice taste, as well as references to The Lost City in Dragon a little while ago. So what should we return to?

I'd vote for:

The Lost City ... surely something new has happened below that pyramid

The Slavelords ... imagine exploring the lava-encrusted ruins of Suderham, and beating the new Scourge of the Wild Coast

Desert of Desolation ... a ancient threat has awakened to menace the Oasis of the White Palm, and the secret to its defeat lies deep in a pyramid.

This one was pretty much done in 2E's Slavers. Don't forget that we also recently got a return to Maure Castle of Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure also.

I'd like to see a Return to the Barrier Peaks, which was scheduled, but then it got scrapped.

Also, not everything that is returned to must be from 1E. I think a Return to Dragon Mountain would seriously rock!

don't forget too... that they polled us(consumers) before they released the Return series for the 25th Anniversary.

RttTomb of Horrors
RtWhite Plume Mountain
RttKeep on the Borderlands
Against the Giants: the Liberation of Geoff
Slavers

and then there is the Dungeon magazine.. also had a return to White Plume Mountain in the form of Kerapitis ... and Maure Castle for WG5 .. and now the Isle of Dread map

also if you want to think of Returns as sequels.. the Lost Tombs series by SKR is somewhat of a Return to C1 and C2

I'm so glad the Lost City has already been suggested. I've always thought, of B4 as the Platonic ideal of the D&D module. It very much needs to be revisited; maybe then there will be a good map of the underground city itself.

I still think Keep Off the Borderlands also needs to be published to validate those of us who, as kids, mistook the first word in the title for a verb (despite the handy glossary in the back).

Return to the Vault of the Drow

Well, Monte Cook snuck one of those into Dead Gods, and besides, that area was updated again in Dragon #298, in the aptly-titled article, "The Vault of the Drow".

In regard to Return to the Keep on the Borderlands, it would have been better if they'd properly redone the deities and background for moving that adventure over to Greyhawk from the original's location on Mystara.

B2 was not originally located anywhere. It was shipped in the original 1978 Holmes and 1980 Moldvay Basic sets, but it wasn't given a location in the "Known World" (which later became Mystara), until the 1983 Expert set.
