Like most rants about someone's vocal talent, this one exposes the speakers utter ignorance about the subject at hand. I suppose you'd prefer the soundtrack feature Brittany Spears?? What that your next entry??? Britany is a professional musician. I might critique her on many fronts, but I won't dare call that into question. Emiliana Toliana (sp?) has been on tour most of the last year with Moby and her first album is #1 on the European charts. It is due for release in the US sometime next year. Just because someone hasn't had a #1 hit doesn't make them a failure or mean they aren't a professional. Until the release of "Only Time" on the Sweet November soundtrack a LOT of people had never heard of Enya either. Her music isn't exactly pop material despite her talent. I have always hated jeerers. If they had their way there would be no singers, no painters, no writers, no artists at all. Countless are the painters lost when a 5 year old draws something and some adult says "That sucks." so they give up never to draw again. Countless too are the singers lost when they are booed by someone they tried to impress. I have often noted that the loudest critics of other people's ability to write, sing, paint, whatever, are those who secretly view themselves as failures in this area, so in their bitterness they try to pull others down to their own level of hopelessness. I find the behavoir both disgusting and reprehensible. Monte hit the nail on the head - people find it too easy to be negative these days - so easy that many are consumed by it. But sometimes rants like this one are necessary. I'm not trying to be mean, but the post quoted about really hit a nerve with one of my worst pet peeves so I needed to say something.
