There have been some high profile games that switched to or added a D&D 5E version, sure. But I would push back against the idea that the tabletop RPG market is all D&D all the time right now, or even close to it. Sure, D&D 5E is the most popular game, D&D has always been the most popular roleplaying game, with the possible exception between 4E and 5E when WotC wasn't selling any D&D product at all (and they only took like 2nd place to Pathfinder, which is essentially a D&D game). But there are tons of games and game systems out there beyond D&D right now . . . from my own point of view, there is more variety in the RPG scene now than ever before. Especially with the OSR scene drifting further and further away from retro-clones and developing some truly innovative stuff. The company behind Trudvang isn't switching over to D&D, they are adding a D&D version of their game and continuing development of the original. Which will end up selling more? Who cares? Both games will be available to those who want them. There are a lot of good reasons to give non-D&D games a try. But there are also a lot of good reasons folks aren't interested. Others have covered it in this thread already . . . tough to convince your gaming group to go non-D&D, don't feel like taking the time/energy to learn a new system . . . . This new Trudvang will let those of us sticking with D&D as our main game to try an interesting new setting and possibly innovate the D&D engine to a degree. I'm excited, I'll probably back the Kickstarter.
