Rite Publishing Presents:
In the Company of Kappa

We are a people of laughter and good cheer.
True, our humor is not always understood by others, we find the sound of breaking bones to be hilarious, but we amuse ourselves first and others second. We love loud jokes, large meals and a good wrestling match. There are many stories told of us, that we eat children, or delight in drowning swimmers. Certainly, we have had our share of villains, but, taken as a whole, we are no more wicked than any other race. Most of us want nothing more than to humble the proud and make the wise man feel foolish. We like to think we are well suited to these tasks. And let us not forget, not only did we break the first bone, but we afterward showed the man how to set it.

This book is compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and contains background on the kappa race, information for using kappa as a PC race (including alternate racial traits), 3 class archetypes, the bone breakrer paragon racial class, new feats and equipment. Though it is designed for inclusion in the land of Kaidan, a Japanese-based fantasy setting, it is written to be readily used in any campaign.

As an aside, for those who care about such things, this is the first of the Kaidan books to come from Rite Publishing. Over the next few months we will be putting together two more race books (hengeyokai and tengu) and some class focused books (starting with the Yakuza). As well, The Curse of the Golden Spear part 1 - The Gift is on track for a June release and Part 2 - Dim Spirit, is in editing now.

Kappa fit in anime themes too!

While the Kappa has been designed for use in Kaidan: a Japanese Ghost Story setting, they are non-human, turtle based oriental goblins - they could fit well into a more Anime based setting and adventure, being a balanced PC monster race.

They could also make for a very odd, non-oriental monster race adapted to a non-Japanese theme.

It's worth checking out!

The PDF File for In the Company of Kappa has been has been overhauled and a new PDF file is available for download at DrivethruRPG and RPGNow. The new File should be available for download at Paizo within a couple of days. When first released, this e-book was not up to the usual standards and contained numerous problems. For this I sincerely apologize. The new PDF contains the properly edited document and a retooling of the bone-breaker racial paragon class.

I would like to thank Endzeitgeist for pointing out some problems we had overlooked. I would also like to thank Steve Russell for his suggestions for improvements to the bone-breaker and Michael Tumey for his patience in laying this file out multiple times.

If you have already downloaded this file, please make sure to obtain the new copy and give it a look over.
