Rituals + Magic Item "Category"

I really like the new category system for magic items, and I was thinking it would be kind of cool to do that for rituals as well... Maybe even have some sort of "artifact" level rituals as well.

There's a ton of room for expansion in rituals I think.

I hate to say it but I believe rituals were always a tack-on when they put out 4e. In my opnion, the fact that they were not put in Essentials tells me that we will see very few new rituals.

Maybe we will see some Unearthed Arcana on the subject.

Rituals already have categories. Each one is a Travel ritual or a Divination ritual or an Exploration ritual or whatever. So all that would need changed is the order things are presented.

Eh... People keep saying this, but I don't buy it. For one thing Rituals actually are talked about in essentials.

We might see a change in the way they're used though.

Well yeah, but I meant to give them the rare, uncommon, common tags as well, and make them do different things based on that tag- like magic items are now.

This is a really good idea.

It adds the flexibility by allowing more powerful effects to be created by rarer rituals.

As an aside, right now, IIRC, you can only use a ritual to create a common magic item. Obviously it makes sense to have a rare ritual be able to make a rare magic item, and so forth.
