It turns out she was good at this, too. Indulgence is not a fool -- she knows what people think of her, and she uses that to achieve her ends. Nevertheless, she has found that she understands the nuances of the battlefield, and this current quest will, she believes, secure her name. </p><p></p><p>She has no personal investment in Manlich; her father died the following year of some wasting disease, and so her obligation to the elders is now cancelled. This is now a career opportunity for her, and nothing more. These events have also hardened her.
