Even after 3 years on the force, Carl isn't used to carrying the thing. Luckily enough for him he hasn't had to fire it except on the range. When he is on the range, he'd rather be in the Boston Public Library studying books, but the department requires him to continue his weapons training in case the need does arise.</p><p></p><p>So far he has been lucky enough to end all the negotiations he's been assigned to without a shot being fired. His supervisors don't believe it. Every new negotiator at least screws up one assignment, but after 3 years, Carl has yet to have the blemish on his record. It was if everyone he talked had a second voice that only he could hear. It was if this second voice telling Carl exactly what he wanted to hear. He started learning how to understand what people are truly saying, and how to talk around their intentions. He started his knack for negotiating. This lead him to join the Academy and become a police negotiator. </p><p></p><p>He wasn't just imagining these voices, he heard them. At times he would be sitting there at the station going over debriefing paperwork, when he would hear an officer address him. Turning to ask the officer what he said, 90% of the time the officer would insist he didn't say anything.</p><p></p><p>After 2 years of trying to explain to his coworkers and supervisors that he heard voices that helped him in negotiations, Carl noticed he started to become an outcast on the force. Carl took up drinking for almost a full year whenever he wasn't working. His life took a downward spiral at that point. His wife divorced him and gained full custody over their daughter. They moved to upstate New York. As his family left, it seemed the voices filled the empty voids in the house.</p><p></p><p>It wasn't until one night Carl was sleeping when things got real bad. He was jolted awake by a loud thud in his house. Opening his eyes in a hungover stupor, grabbing his firearm, and investigating the situation further, Carl came across a figure standing in his kitchen. Confronting the man, the figure turned to look at Carl and then bolted through the wall. Shocked at what he saw, Carl passed out from shock.</p><p></p><p>Waking up to the sun shining through the kitchen window, Carl no longer heard the voices. Everything seemed more silent than they ever have in the past 7 years. Terrified of what occurred and not being able to explain it, Carl stopped drinking. He moved out of the house to try and forget about his ex-wife and daughter. Moving into a small studio apartment, Carl focused on his career. He started reading books on god and religion, hoping to find answers of what has happened to him in there.</p><p></p><p>Still an outcast at work, Carl's performance has still excelled beyond what anyone could hope for.[/sblock]</p><p></p><p>[sblock=personality]Quiet and reserved, Carl would rather have his head in a book than anywhere else.
