RP effects of Haste (or slow)

Note: This is not a discussion of that actual rule mechanics of a slow/haste spell or effect. I know the rules, and I understand they work differently in each system. My question hopefully spans all systems.

Do you RP out effects of the haste/slow spell besides adding/subtracting actions per round?

For example, I was recently watching an original Star Trek episode where Kirk is sped up so fast that he becomes invisible to the rest of the crew. In essence, he is there, but his presence sounds more like an insect buzzing around than anything else.

Or, I was thinking of a race like Treants (but moreso) who live so long but move so slow that their speech is slow as well.

Do you do things like this with haste/slow effects? Would it be reasonable to say as a GM to a player who just cast haste: "Because of your rapid speed, you are no longer able to be understood by your companions unless you succeed on a Concentration check" (or some such check in older systems.

Thoughts? Fair? Do you do anything like this in your game?

[Aside: The reason that I ask is because in my latest post in my Story Hour Into the Moral Darkness, (see link below in my sig) I develop this idea a bit. I am curious how other people handle it if at all.]

Considering how limited the effect is in 3.5, I tend not to emphasize it in RP. I mean, mostly the only thing it even does is give you some extra move(unless you get a bunch of full attacks, but in practice that doesn't tend to happen that often, and hardly ever when Hasted). I think if I imposed RP effects like not being able to communicate, my group probably wouldn't ever use it (since it's barely used as is).
 

We don't roleplay it as much as joke about it - talking slowly while slowed, and behaving like speed junkies while hasted. ;)
 

I'm not sure Haste provides enough of a speed boost to produce those kinds of problems. It takes Time Stop to render the caster invisible from moving too quickly, for instance.
 

We use it descriptively in game. During haste things seem to move in bullet-time.

But adding extra rules (like the concentration checks and so on) goes beyond role-playing and back into rules and effects.

Well, at least that's true in 3.5. Not necessarily true in other systems, iirc and I may not.

Hellhound, good point about it going back to rules by adding a check.
