Drender's human mother knew he was destined for great things from an early age in the tiny mountain village of Kalibrat. At the age of 11, he took up a fallen sword and slew a rogue kobold that had started a rampage through the village. Thus, he was inducted into the Rangers Guild, where he showed an affinity for Giantslaying. Thus did Drender meet his mentor, the Green Knight, Wagner, who trained him in the ways of chivalry, the woodland skills of the Green, and the skills necessary to live the life of a Giantslayer, and survive to tell his tale. Drender's half-elf blood went from being a curiousity and the legacy of an unknown father, to an asset, as he stepped as lightly as his father's countrymen through all types of terrain, mastered the twin blades of a Giant Slayer easily, and could commune with all manner of beasts and spirits. Then, when Drender was 17(almost at his coming of age), a terrible tragedy struck. The Trolls of Necramount, led by the Troll King, Midorok, swept down from the withered mountain peaks of the the Necramount Range, and slaughtered all they found in their paths, human, elf, moogle, and dwarf alike. Wagner the Green Knight stood in the paths of these most dangerous of the Giant Races, while his young journeyman ranger stood at his back, defending himself and his master against the kobolds that the trolls drove before them like hunting hounds. Drender and his master slew many that day; the bodies of dead monsters piled high around them, until Galberok took the field of battle. Wielding a pair of clubs, spiked and banded with blades of unholy might, the son of the Troll King slew Wagner in a pitched battle, eventually batting the aged knight against a tree as if swatting a fly. Drender stood in shock when he saw his master slump against the base of the ancient oak. Picking up his twin longswords, he charged at Galberok, who was so injured from the battle, that even the legendary endurance of the trolls was not enough to let him survive. With his blades blazing with fiery hate, Drender clipped the head from Galberok in one intersecting swipe, earning himself the enmity of Midorok and causing the rest of the Troll King's army to retreat from the fiery anger of the young Ranger. Drender ran to his fallen mentor; Wagner was crumpled in ways no human should be, and Drender knew the old man's wounds were fatal. With tears in his eyes, Drender began gathering stones large enough to make a cairn for his teacher; when they were gathered, he went to move the body, and a scroll fell from Wagner's satchel. It was a prophecy, sent by a man whom Drender didn't know but recognized the name of, Alistaire the Great, from a far off land. It was called "The Prophecy of the Light Warriors: The Last Knight of the Green." After enterring Wagner, Drender set off down Mount Bone, the Prophecy in one hand, his sword in the other...
