I'm another consumer who will be trumpeting the fact that this is indeed a sad day for our hobby. Hopefully some day someone will realize that corporate mergers don't do anyone any favors except the executives who survive the merger and the major shareholders. In this case publishers, consumers and employees lose. I've been involved on the inside of mergers and at no time does the resulting corporate entity decide to share the pie with consumers. They consider consumers to be the pie. A pie to be gorged upon by the fat kid at a pie-eating contest. The merging businesses usually make a "good for everyone especially the consumers" speech. They may even start off with some special deals or at worst no changes. But as time goes on the lack of competition shows. In my industry we buy out our competition and then set prices accordingly. Its sad but true. Consumers are hurt and so are employees of the merging companies. The pattern is always the same - put out a speech, make no immediate price changes - then gradually adjust according to decreased market competition (which doesn't exist in this case). Grrrr. This may cause me to change my sig.
