RPGA DM screwed up, but the Fighter is still Chuck Norris

Played in RPGA Weekend in the Realms on Saturday. The DM needed to adjust the module since there were only four of us. A moderately optimized Human Artificer, an unoptimized Elf Archer Ranger, a VERY unoptimized Eladrin Staff Wizard, and a fairly optimized Dwarf Fighter played by yours truly. All of us were level 1. The issue was, the DM accidentally used the encounters for a six person party, and not a party of four. It also bears noting that I was the only melee character.

First fight was against 1 Orc Eye of Gruumsh(level 5 leader), 3 Orc Raiders(level 3 Skirmishers wielding Greataxes), and 4 Orc Drudge(level 4 minion). This is a level 5 fight against 4 characters. I basically came out against all three Raiders(minions had problems approaching), after the Wizard failed with his only area attack. The DM had all of the enemies pound on me almost exclusively(the Ranger and Wizard were both hit only once), mostly with Greataxes. I took both Healing Infusions from the Artificer as well as my own dwarf flavored minor action Second Wind, and actually managed to survive. My proudest moment was standing tall against the Eye and last Raider when I had 5hp and no further healing was available. I was aided slightly by the DM being bad at tactics, but still.

The DM didn't realize he was using the encounters for a party of six until after the module was over. The second two fights we actually steamrolled.

The last time a DM seriously misread an encounter, it ended in a TPK.

Of course, that was a 3.0 Oriental Adventures game where the DM looked into the wrong row for the Giants attack stats...

So consider yourself lucky. ;)
